#BookishBloggersUnite is a weekly hashtag that a group of bookish friends participate in to talk about books. This week’s host is Bookish Bron, check out their blog for more links.
Today, I’m taking a look at the upcoming releases for the back half of 2018 and listing the titles I’m most excited about. I have to admit, most of the big 2018 books for me came out in the first six months, including a new Jacqueline Carey which always has me excited (and it was great!). But there are lots of great titles on the horizon. Here are just a few of them.
I am a huge fan of the Three Dark Crowns series and very excited for book 3’s release in September. While I was initially a bit concerned about the fact that the original duology was expanded to a 4-book series, the ending of One Dark Throne significantly upended the status quo of the series and set more books up quite well.
Long Live Queen Katherine.
Another great YA title that I’m excited about! I read The Gentlemen’s Guide to Vice and Virtue last year and loved it. I particularly found Felicity, Monty’s brother, to be fascinating and so I’m thrilled that she is going to get a book over her own. And if that wasn’t enough to get me excited, Mackenzi Lee just tweeted the back cover copy and it is AMAZING.
Of course, I need some romance on this list! Tessa Dare is one of my favourite romance authors and so I am very excited for a new book (and also need to keep working my way through her backlist, until I break my heart by reaching the end). This one sounds very intriguing and I do have a soft spot for governess romances – I blame Charlotte Bronte for that one.
Mary Robinette Kowal is a very important author in my life, though less because of her books than because of her involvement with Writing Excuses, a podcast I have been listening to for years. But recently I’ve begun getting more into her fiction and have really fallen in love with it as well.
I’ve heard a lot about the novelette “The Lady Astronaut of Mars,” though I’ve not yet read it. I plan to do that and then check out this first book about the character, because it all sounds just amazing.
This one is a difficult inclusion on the list, not because I am not very excited about it but because it might not actually be released in 2018. Courtney Milan self-publishes her books, which mean they can come out as soon as she’s finished them but it also means that release dates aren’t set in stone. Currently, her website lists this one for 2018 but, based on her “emoji threat level”, this date is pretty much a complete lie and so the wait for this book may continue.
Regardless of what year it does get released, you can bet I’ll be reading this one right away, because I’m fascinated to see what happens when Milan returns to a couple she already wrote a book about, since Tina and Blake were also the main characters of the first Cyclone book.
So that’s my list! If there’s a book that you’re excited about for 2018, let me know about it in the comments and maybe I’ll be adding it to my TBR as well 🙂
